Going to college near Chicago, it was impossible not to notice the long-standing suffering of Cubs fans. I enjoyed an outing to Wrigley as much as anyone else, but was not emotionally invested in seeing the Cubbies win a World Series. All that angst, over a game, seemed silly.
This year I have watched my beloved Oakland A's tote up the worst record in the American League and one of the worse records in all of baseball. Beginning with their collapse against the Royals in last year's play-in playoff game, it's been a rough ride. I always check the score and am usually disappointed. All for a game. My apologies to all Cubs fans of the 1990s. I feel you.
