From Derek Thompson in the Atlantic, a reminder that America is the only OECD country without federally guaranteed vacation...and a country in which people do not take much of the vacation to which they are entitled. Work work work today, then get up tomorrow and do it all over again.
Sick. Today I penned a mournful status update on Facebook, lamenting the huge to-do lists that crowd the work-day and usually mean little. Even if you know something does not really matter there are various pressures to do it anyway.
Not that work is never rewarding. But you have to rise above the minutiae to look back and see what you've accomplished. At Samuel Merritt we've started an open access publishing fund, redesigned the library, and are in the process of rolling out Canvas, a new learning management system. That fund had its first taker last week, students like our new space, and our Canvas training is going well.
All in all, not bad. And while taking vacations! Ours may be a no vacation nation, but this will never be a no vacation house.
Thrilled to hear you are still taking vacations! I have gotten better with mine. Teaching gives lots of that!
