Alison

I read an article in The Stranger a few months ago (can't seem to find it again, unfortunately) about the author's experience at a book publisher trade show and how it was like a bunch of dead men walking. He made a good point about Kindles: they don't display the book cover on the outside of the device. This means that a) you lose the serendipity of discovering new titles because you see other people reading them, b) it's harder to strike up a conversation with someone who might be reading something you've also read, and of course c) it is now possible to read trashy literature in public places without risking embarrassment or shame. Can you tell I do most of my reading on the bus?
